Trading, regardless of the length of time you’ve been doing it, will bring challenging moments. It is in these difficult times that we reveal our true character. We must be cautious not to make impulsive decisions in attempts to regain what we lost due to market fluctuations. Such actions include taking on excessive risk, trading under unfavorable circumstances, and using complex tactics to outsmart the market. If not mindful, these negative behaviors can lead us into a downward spiral during inevitable downturns.

In virtually all cases, I was able to solve their problems by simply getting back to basics. I have answered tens of thousands of emails from struggling people over the years. In order to return to profitability, a proper money management program, trading only in trending markets, and following a trading plan were all that was required rather than giving into the inevitable psychological and physiological urges that come with bad times.
Trading Must Be Approached

Here are three things you need:
Methodology: You need a methodology that’s conceptually correct. Because trading is all about capturing trends, you need a methodology that follows trends. Further, since following a more complex methodology is much more difficult, it must be simple and easy to follow.
Money Management: Trading is unfair, so you must limit losses while still allowing for unlimited gains-and not just the opposite! You must be willing to get out when you’re wrong, and stay the course when you’re right.
Mind: A final note, You need to accept that you cannot control the markets. You need to accept that you have no control over them. The best methodology in the world is useless if you do not have the right mentality to follow it. Trading only when conditions are conducive, planning the trade, and trading the plan will allow you to overcome the internal battle.

Trading is not easy, but it isn’t nearly as difficult as most people make it out to be. Simple techniques can actually work quite well.
The only way to profit from a trade is to capture a trend, so identify trends and then ride them.
Trades, no matter how good they are, always end in failure. Furthermore, trading is unfair because the percentage of recovering from losses is exponentially increasing. Considering these two inescapable facts, you must have a solid money and position management plan in place that limits losses while still allowing for unlimited gains.
Beginners can avoid the Holy Grail hunt by learning and sticking with the basics until they are successful. More experienced traders must return to the basics until they gain confidence again.
It is useless to have the best methodology in the world if you do not have the right mindset to follow it.
You have to acknowledge that we’re not made to trade from both physiological and psychological levels and then take steps to train your brain. Having the right mindset is crucial, but there’s one more important step. Next, identify anything in your life that doesn’t have any bearing on trading, and that could doom you from the beginning.
